MPTY:Hi guys, how are you?hi from Romania.
Mike:Greetings from the U.S. Romania, thanks for taking the time to interview us. This is Mike Gurley the bass player of Darkbuster.
I know you allready have been celebrating 10 years of existance as a band. roumor was you were releasing a dvd. i am not up to date with that. what happened to it?
I think we've put it on hold and decided if we are going to tour Europe it would be good to document that trip and include our antics on the new DVD. So, it's a work in progress I guess and we want it to include as much footage as possible.
Are you preparing any new materials?
Yes, we've got a bunch of stuff recorded and are about 1/2 way to a full length cd. The touring has kind of put that to a halt but once we get back from Europe in April we should start to bang out the rest.
You signed a contract with I Scream for reediting "a weakness for spirits". will the next material be also released by them? how are you collaborating with them?
I'm not exactly sure we have any sort of deal with I Scream for the next record. We've always kind of taken the bull by its horns and produced our own records and then go from there. Our relationship with I Scream is great though, so it's something we'd have to discuss further. They certainly played an integral part in helping us finally get over to Europe for sure- it's been a pleasure working with them.

Tell me a little something about the concerts you are prerparing for 2008. i know there are some in february. what's next? an easthern-Europe tour?
Well, February is when we do our annual week long set of shows in our hometown of Boston. We call it the Hometown Throw Up and this is the 3rd one we've done. After that we do go over to Europe for the Bad Boys for Life Tour with the U.S. Bombs. I think that takes us mostly to Western Europe and not Eastern Europe. We'll cross our fingers and if all goes well we'll come back and make sure we hit Easter Europe- Romania of course is our #1 target for Eastern Europe.
What can you tell me about the Boston music scene? i know there are very good HC and punk bands.
Must be something in the water here because we continually turn our quality bands. Every time I turn around there's a new band from here that comes out blows me away. We're lucky I think in that sense. Another great aspect of Boston is that it is small, so we all know each other and all support each other. We have a great scene. I know I'm biased but I think we have the best scene in the U.S. to say the least. Dropkick Murphys, Street Dogs, Bosstones, Ducky Boys, Far From Finished, Death and Taxes etc. All good friends of ours, all bands we've played with and all bands we go to see at every opportunity.
7. which was the best concert you have ever been to? I saw Joe Strummer once and that blew me away- that was in 2001 and he did mostly all Clash songs. I also would have to say any number of Dropkick Murphys St. Paddy's days shows- because it's such an event- and people from all over the world land in Boston to go to the shows and hang out in bars afterwards. It's one big, fun party for 4 or 5 days. and a close 3rd place would be Gang Green @ the Rat in 1996. Beer fueled mayhem which was something I had never seen before prior to that. They had to mop the stage a few times.

Is Fitzy fictional? why should he (fitzy needs a haircut)?
haha Fitzy is actually our retired Merch Guy and is one of my best friends. His hair wasn't too long, just would stick out from his scaly cap so Lenny wrote a song about him to kind of poke fun of him. It's kind of the darkbuster way. We tend to point fingers at people (even ourselves) and make fun of whatever. It's all in jest. Although he was a little pissed when he heard about it. Once he listened to the song he thought it was great.
I know you have solo projects too (Lenny and the Piss Poor Boys, Drago, Raging Teens). how is it going? are you satisfied?
Drago is just an 80's throwback Hardcore band. We're all friends and it's just a way to let off steam, have fun and when DB has some down time we play shows. I love it because of the relaxed nature of the project. And the songs come to us easy. We have a lot of fun and we probably make ourselves laugh more than the folks who listen to us. We felt there was humor missing from hardcore so we made an attempt at it I suppose. As for Lenny's band they've been on hiatus for about a year do the unfortunate sudden death of their bass player Jon Johnson. It's was a terrible tragedy and he left a big hole in our music community because of his good nature and great musical knowledge. He is sorely missed by many. That being said, I do hear rumblings that they are going to play a show soon with a fill in bass player so I'm looking forward to that. The Raging Teens have been doing stuff for almost as long as us but they currently play mostly local shows. They always pack the house when they play and they are one of the best- if not the best Rockabilly band to come out of Boston. I say that as fan too and not as a friend/band mate of Amy's. I was going to their shows long before I knew Amy.

Name some of the bands that have influenced Darkbuster in one or another way.
Well, you have the obvious musical ones like The Clash and The Ramones but I would also say the Bosstones and the Dropkick Murphys. They both paved a way for our scene and taught us how do stuff the right way. They've always helped us out and we in turn try to help out newer bands and get them more exposure etc. I guess it's like paying back our community for all the support we've been given over the years.
Thank you for this interview. if you have any message or anything to add for the readers, please do so. maybe we will see you in Romania with DKM.haha
Well I would say feel free to drop by our myspace page and give a listen Romania. I'm not sure how many people in Romania besides you know us but hopefully after reading this you'll drop by and say hi. And, even if we can't go with DKM, maybe we'll get over to Eastern Europe after this first trip. Cheers!!
thanks to Darkbuster
